Beautiful compilation gathering the first two releases from this Vienna-based duo, formed by A.T. (Pukke Puddle, The Boiler, etc.) and R.F. (Gates of Londra, Parasite Dreams, Pitva). Extraordinaire project, emerging from the depths of the Viennese sewers, but as shimmer of light, a sort of pristine haven hidden amongst the pest ridden urban filth and decay. Gathering their excellent two releases put out in 2022, the self-titled debut demo and the "Dreams Inside" EP, released on the great Austrian tape labels, Urban Lurk and Födweg, respectively. Beautifully mixing Black Metal and Post-Punk, in a very organic and equally dosed way, Peace Vaults seems to mix in the endurance and ardent fury of Ildjarn, with mystical and hypnotic Post-Punk, with the Post-Punk elements transcending much more than the beautifully alluring, present basslines, and the bewitching clean vocals, but being very present in the more intricate song structures, as well as in the intros and interludes, with tracks like "Bitter Mirth" being even extraordinarily reminiscent with Joy Division's classic "Atmosphere". A project that will definitely be appreciated by adepts of their compatriots in Brånd and Gates of Londra, or acts such as Calvary and Circle of Ouroborus cementing their position with these acts as the best Post-Punk and Black Metal crossovers out there in my opinion.
